SUPERFRAMES

In the March 2009 issue of Performance Express, an online publication from ISPI, they talk about SuperFrames, developed by Darryl Sink. This looks like a great tool. In the article a SuperFrame is described as "A SuperFrame™ consists of established formats for job aids and for performance-based activities constructed for formal learning situations in the classroom or online. After training, the job aids provide transfer of learning back on the job. Darryl begins by designing the job aid and then chooses an appropriate activity “frame” to increase learning and transfer."

JOB AIDS

There was a very conscice article about Job Aids by Fernanda Daniel in the November 2008 issue of Performance Express that outlined, more clearly than I have seen, when it is appropriate to use job aids and how they can affect performance. They say to use them....

* When you want to shorten training time and eliminate unnecessary training.

* When you do not have time to train but still want to help your employees improve their job performance expectations can be met if step-by-step instructions are available.

* When your current training does not seem to be working and you need something that will help people do their jobs better.

* When customers are having a hard time using your products and services.

* When you need to improve standardization and quality control in your employees’ job performance.

* When you want to produce user-friendly operational procedure guides quickly and accurately.
